The events that have transpired in the U.S. recently are concerning, especially for those believers in Christ. I know for many that seeing the capital overrun, and the events in the white house, have caused disgust and disbelief.
As Christians how should we react to these events? Throughout the bible we see story after story of political and social turmoil. This was true in New Testament times, so much so that the biblical writers, through inspiration of the Holy Spirit, left instructions and encouragement for us.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” – Philippians 2
In the original Greek language, the word for grumbling is muttering in a low tone of voice. It indicates a disdain or rejection of God’s will. He has willed this. Every single element of what is happening is His desire. We may not understand now, but in eternity we will see the completeness and perfectness of His plan. We don’t complain, we know we live in a crooked and twisted generation, but we are to be lights to the world. We are the beacons. We are the voice of an eternal hope, not just accepting, but acknowledging in our hearts that the Lord has our individual needs and desires in His view.
In light of this the Lord demonstrated repeatedly how He wants to commune with us in prayer. While we fully accept His will, He wants us to let our desires be known to Him. We are to take our concerns to Him and plead for change. “14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14
Prayer for today:
Lord God, we pray for Wisdom in these tumultuous and end times. Fill us with knowledge and understanding. Grant us discernment to see truth and take it to our hearts. Let us see the world as you do Lord. Let us not call evil good and good evil. Give us boldness, always in love, to speak truth no matter the cost.
If it be your will, please Lord let the truth prevail. Let our country turn from its evil deeds and focus once again on You. Let all evil, corruption, and deeds done for self-gain or pride be exposed and dealt with.
Lord, let those in governmental authority turn their eyes to You, maker of heaven, earth, and this great nation. Put in power those who fear you, those leaders who will walk in Your ways and in obedience to You. Let those who deny you see Your truth. Let prayer to You ring out in our governmental halls.
Surely Your will be done. Fill us with Your perfect peace. Let us see what is perfect, true, noble, pure and lovely. Focus our eyes and hearts on the perfection of Your will and heaven, not forsaking today but being the guiding lights to a lost and dying people, as You have commanded.
Lord, we know we will go through continuous trials and tribulations. As the final days set on us, let all of those whose hearts are troubled bow to Your will with Joy. Heal those who are sick and broken hearted. Show us Your immeasurable lovingkindness and deepest care for every aspect of our lives.
Most of all thank you for putting us in this place at this time. Thank you calling us and for giving us the knowledge, resources, and opportunities to serve You and Your Kingdom.
Amen
